Podcasting Wishlist
The world of media sharing and consumption, whether it’s written word, photos and photo galleries, video clips or entire episodes, has come a very long way since the internets appeared as if by magic. The notion of “podcasting” has been around for a good long while as well, but when was the last time there was real innovation in these areas:
Content publishing
Can we have a “container” format with all of the parts, similiar to YouTube?
Can we make better use of Open Graph metadata to provide a rich, frictionless sharing experinece across the board?
Can we merge episode metadata (ie the RSS feed) into the human-readable document so we have a single authoritative, cross-platform, standards-based source of truth per episode?
Discovery
Make the episode page fully indexable, sharable, findable
Allow attractive human-readable presentation under control of the publisher
Sharing/Bookmarking/Annotating/Commenting
Publisher owns the url and the content, enable interactivity if that is desirable
A url and the modern take on open graph and structured metadata should enable sharing according to modern expectations, make that consistent
A self-contained source of truth, without depending entirely on feature support by player apps and platforms, enables a listener/consumer experience under publisher control, essential.

Coffee Time!
As I mentioned, the coffee I was drinking during the production of this episode is the first robusta-only coffee I’ve obtained. I’ve had many pounds (literally) of Death Wish whole bean coffee, which gets its higher caffeine levels by blending in robusta beans, but this one claims to be all robusta, and it definitely tastes a bit rougher I suppose than Death Wish.
Top Shelf Grind Black Diamond Whole Bean Coffee (via Amazon, not affiliate link).
I take advantage of the Amazon Subscribe & Save options for some coffee selections, others come from different coffee sources, from local indy shops to large roasters to small roasters to wherever else nice coffees can be found. The journey is long and winding, but we’ll be awake for the whole thing…
